Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is responsible for the investigation of crimes committed in Tuscaloosa County by both adults and juveniles. The crimes range from robbery, burglary, financial crime, theft, juvenile crime, sexual and physical abuse and the exploitation of children.

There are eight case investigators assigned to four districts, one investigator assigned exclusively to child physical/sexual abuse and one sex offender/animal control compliance investigator. Also assigned are one Lieutenant, one secretary and one clerk along with a Sergeant whose primary duties include pre-employment background investigations and Internal Affairs investigations.  Investigators are trained in utilizing the latest technology to assist in the investigation of crimes. Specialized training is stressed within the division, and includes arson investigation, voice stress analysis, electronic tracking devices, video surveillance, computer crimes, and crime scene processing.  The Criminal Investigations Division is headed by Sgt. John Barker
