
Criminal Investigations
Division (C.I.D.) is responsible for the investigation of property
crimes, including theft, burglary, arson, forgery and criminal mischief.
C.I.D. also investigates crimes committed against children such
as physical and sexual abuse, missing persons, and the exploitation
of children by adults via the Internet. There are seven investigators,
one sergeant, one lieutenant, a secretary and a clerk assigned to
C.I.D.
Investigators in C.I.D.
are assigned to districts within Tuscaloosa County, which are drawn
based on the number of calls for service. They are responsible for
investigating crimes occurring within their district. The exception
is one full time Abuse Investigator. She is responsible for the
investigation of physical and sexual abuse of children as well as
on-line computer exploitation of children and child pornography.
One investigator in C.I.D. is also assigned as a gang information
officer to gather information on gang membership and gang activity
in Tuscaloosa County.
Investigators are trained
in utilizing the latest technology to assist in the investigation
of crimes. Specialized training is included within the division
including arson investigations, voice stress analysis, electronic
tracking devices, video surveillance, computer crimes, and crime
scene processing.
